David Pinto Theory

David Pinto theory is the most appealing to me. Simple and unique!
It consists out of three steps which are applicable in anytime, anywhere. But it takes a lot of understanding and a lot of patience start implementing this method.

-Learning our own norms and values can be an easy part of the road.

-But learning someone else’s norms, values and tradition is a harder part.
Are we willing to learn and to truly commit ourselves to mutual understandings?

-Finally acting toward other side with subjective solutions that fits the best for all named differences.

P.S.
Simple always unique and a method on a very personal level

  1. Hi!

I agree with you and I also find it difficult to follow D.Pinto's second step.

It would be a good idea to combine both Pinto's and Hofstede's approaches like:

    1. I reflect about MY culture.

    2. I reflect about THE OTHER's culture, using Hofstede 5 dimensions to have a clear overview of it.

    3. Negotiation on how to communicate.

    What do you think?

  2. I think that d. Pinto's theory is of a great value, but it has disadvantages when it comes to knowing the others culture without a need to experience it by yourself. Using Hofstede's theory in this point is more helpful, so you could have an overview about another culture before visiting the naming place!
Furthermore, from my point of view Hofstede's theory takes advantages over the Pinto's theory in this aspect.

  3. The fact that when David Pinto for the first time arrived in Netherlands,he works on the variety of simple jobs(folding towels and sheets in a laundry, rinsing bottles in a pharmacy and sweeping the sweeping the street) that didn't require much knowledge of Dutch said to us how important is to know the language of country where we plan to go and find a job.
